CBI carries out searches at senior IRS officer's premises

CBI today carried out searches at the office and residence of M Krishnaswamy, an Indian Revenue Service officer, for allegedly amassing wealth of over Rs six crore, disproportionate to his income sources.

CBI sources said a case has been registered against Krishnaswamy, a Commissioner Income Tax ranked-officer presently posted as Director (Investigation) at Settlement Commission, Chennai, and eight others for possession of disproportionate assets.

The officer and his family were in possession of assets to the tune of Rs 6.1 crore, the sources claimed.

They said searches were carried out at 14 places at Chennai, Palani and other places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the case.

A Dindigul report, quoting CBI sources, said a team of 10 CBI officials conducted searches at Krishnaswamy's residence and residences of two of his relatives at Palani.

They declined to give details about the raid.
