The CBI officials who produced Mopidevi to the CBI court, requested for seven days police custody. However, they agreed for five days after the defence conceded for five days police custody.

After hearing the prosecution and defence, the Judge ordered for police custody of the accused (Mopidevi) for a period of five days till the morning of May 30.

The CBI was permitted to take custody of Mopidevi with immediate effect after the defence requested in this regard, in order to avoid getting lodged at jail.

The Judge further directed CBI not to use third degree methods during course of interrogation and permitted for presence of two defence counsels at the time of interrogation which shall begin from tomorrow till May 29.

The CBI sought police custody on the ground that it wanted to interrogate Mopidevi to ascertain from him information on the role of public servant and private persons in connection with the allegation that there were various violations and several GOs were issued for alienation of over 15,000 acres of land in favour of Vanpic Projects Private Limited.

Mopidevi was arrested by CBI this afternoon after his questioning by CBI over the VANPIC deal.
