CBI files charge sheet against the then Customs Commissioner

CBI has filed a chargesheet against then Commissioner of Customs Atul Dixit and an exporter of Delhi for causing an alleged loss of Rs 74.50 crore to government exchequer.

CBI Spokesperson said here today that case was registered against Dixit and others under charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy on the allegations of showing favour to private companies in the release of duty drawback from ICD, Tughlakabad, Delhi and ICD, Patparganj, Delhi.

"It was further alleged that in order to favour the private person, the said public servants deliberately did not suspend the duty drawbacks of the firms immediately and ensured that the amounts claimed by the firms as duty drawback were transferred to their bank accounts," she said.
 

The official said the act of the said public servants allegedly resulted into a wrongful revenue loss to the government and corresponding gain to the private parties.

"After thorough investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet. The accused persons moved bail applications before the Designated Court, Delhi. After several hearings on the bail applications, the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Delhi rejected the bail applications on October six. All the accused persons in the case are presently in Judicial custody," she said.
