Six cases, including two of them registered as many as over ten years ago, are pending active investigation in the CBI, government said today.

"So far as the CBI is concerned, there are six cases pending active investigation in the CBI for more than five years," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Four cases are being investigated for more than five years and two others for more than ten years. Of the total cases, two each pertain to criminal misconduct and special crime category, and one each related to disproportionate assets and cheating and forgery, he said.

There has been marginal decline in the conviction rate of the CBI. The probe agency has achieved 71 per cent of conviction rate in 2010 as against 67 per cent in 2011 and 2012.

In reply to another question, Narayanasamy said government has recently approved creation of 22 special courts, in addition to 71 others, in various states across the country.
