: Opposition AIADMK today demanded or a CBI probe into 'blunders' and 'irregularities' of government in selecting private players for establishment of Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Speaking to reporters here, Party's local unit secretary A Anbalagan, MLA,said Madras High Court had recently dismissed a petition, seeking a direction to the Centre to approve setting up of the SEZ, for which large tracts of farmland was acquired by government. Irregularities adopted in selection of the private promoter for this had also come to the fore,he said.

Claiming this was not an isolated case,he said CAG had come down on government owned PIPDIC for the procedure adopted in selecting an ineligible private player to use the coal block in Odisha' which consequently led to Puducherry being deprived of getting power at a cheap rate.

He also demanded that 850 hectares acquired by government for the SEZ project be re-sold to farmers from whom the land was acquired at the same price at which the site was acquired.

He also wanted the government to fix the procurement price of milk in tune with that done by neigbouring Tamil Nadu.Steps should also be taken to curb communal clashes fanned by caste based political parties here, he said.
