The CBI raided the residence of the Chief Passport Officer in Verna village as part of a probe into the issuance of dual passports to a few individuals in Goa, an official said today.

The CBI raided the private residence of Chief Passport officer Agnelo Fernandes in Verna village last night to probe instances of some people being issued Indian passports by the local office, without the cancellation of their Portugese passports.

"We conducted searches till last night and now the investigation will begin," Superintendent of Police (CBI) Ashok Kumar told PTI, refusing to share more details of the raid.

The CBI officials seized various documents from the residence of Fernandes, besides 104 bottles of liquor which were handed over to the state excise department.

Goa State Excise Commissioner Menino Fernandes said a case has been registered against the passport officer for possessing liquor above permissible limit.

"A case has been registered under local excise law against Fernandes. An inquiry will be initiated against him," Fernandes said.
