CBI today carried out searches against officials of Central Excise posted at Special Economic Zone of Mundra, Gujarat and recovered cash from their offices besides property documents and jewellery from residences.
CBI, along with a team of Central Excise, searched the offices of J V Bhutani, Superintendent, S K Chavda, Preventive/PRO, Vikas Bagdi, Preventive, Jay Uchat, Preventive of Central Excise.
The agency recovered total of Rs.6.30 lakh in cash from office of Bhutani besides cash of Rs. 23 lakh, six FDs of Rs.7.80 lakh in his name and wife's name, gold biscuits and jewellery, papers related to three flats/plots, some insurance policies and investment in shares, the sources said.

When asked about the sources of this cash, Bhutani failed to give any explanation after which agency registered a case against him and three other under Prevention of Corruption Act, the sources said.
During the searches, CBI also recovered Rs three lakh in cash and four bottles of foreign liquor from the office of Chavda. Cash and documents of investment were also recovered from his residence.
The agency also recovered from Bagdi and Uchat cash of Rs.3.06 lakh (approx), jewellery worth Rs.7.77 lakh (approx), certain documents of various investment in NSC/KVPs and property documents.
