The CBI today claimed to have recovered two kilograms of gold jewellery from one of the bank lockers of IRS officer Sanjay Kumar against whom the agency has registered a disproportionate assets case.

The premises of Kumar, a 1991 batch IRS officer who is posted as Chief Accounts Officer at Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), and the offices allegedly owned by his wife were searched by the CBI last week.

CBI officials said one of the bank lockers was opened today and the agency sleuths recovered two kgs of gold ornaments.

During the previous searches last week, the CBI had claimed to have recovered property documents worth Rs 19 crore, bank documents showing deposits of Rs 74 lakh and one kg of gold jewellery.

Efforts to contact Kumar did not fructify and messages on his mobile were unanswered.

The CBI alleged Kumar, Financial Advisor and Chief Administrative Officer at EPFO here, and his wife had amassed Rs 6.40 crore worth of disproportionate assets during 2006-15.

"It was alleged that the said officer of EPFO had accumulated assets in his name and in the name of his family members which are disproportionate to his known sources of income. It was further alleged that his wife abetted him in the offence by investing the money through the said firms," a CBI Spokesperson had said on December 22.
