A year after the alleged rape and murder of a 13-year-old dalit girl in Haridwar, CBI today registered a case against unknown persons at the request of the Uttarakhand government.
CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said here that the case was registered under sections 376-D (gangrape), 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) of Indian Penal Code and sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The case has been filed against unknown persons at the request of the Government of Uttarakhand and further notification from the Government of India, the official said.

She said it has been alleged in the FIR that unknown persons committed rape and murder of minor girl (age about 13 years) who was studying in Class VI at Roshnabad in Haridwar.
"The deceased girl was visiting her parental home during the winter vacation at Village Pherupur (Ramkhera district), Haridwar. On the morning of January 7, 2014, she went outside her home to defecate but did not return home. After a long search the parents and the villagers found the body of the girl in the sugarcane field," she said.
