CBI today took over the investigations into the May 14 caste violence in Nagaur district of Rajasthan which claimed the lives of five persons.

CBI spokesperson said the two cases registered by Rajasthan Police in Nagaur district have been taken over by the agency on the request of the state government.

The cases were registered under the IPC sections related to murder, rioting, criminal trespass, atrocities against SC/ST among others.

Five persons -- four from Dalit community and one from Jat community -- were killed in a clash between the two groups on May 14 over an old land dispute.

The incident occurred near Merta town when two persons, Kanaram Jat and Ratna Ram Meghwal, and their supporters armed with sharp-edged weapons and guns, clashed with each other.

The cause of dispute was allegedly the land which was in Ratna Ram's possession. Kanaram had also staked a claim on it.

While Rampal from Jat community had died of a bullet shot, four from dalit community -- Ratna Ram, Pokar Ram, Pancha Ram Ganpat Ram -- succumbed to injuries inflicted by other weapons.
