CBI is likely to fasten the probe in a case related to 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the Nangloi area in which Sajjan Kumar remains one of the suspects, while it plans to challenge before the Delhi High Court the acquittal of the Congress leader in a separate riots case.

CBI sources said although the Nangloi case was registered by Delhi Police in 1992, the investigating agency was handed over this case only last year and it plans to quicken the probe process to file the charge sheet.

The sources said the name of the Congress politician along with five others was in the list of accused but the police had later allegedly dropped Kumar's name from its FIR.

It is alleged that a charge sheet with name of Kumar as accused was also prepared in April, 1992 but it was not produced before the court, the sources said, adding that these are all aspects of its investigation.

On the issue of filing an appeal against the acquittal of Kumar in a '84 riots case, they said the agency is likely to wait till the court pronounces verdict on quantum of sentence for those declared guilty in the case.

District and Sessions Judge J R Aryan had on April 30 acquitted the Congress leader in a 29-year-old riots case in which he was accused of murder and of instigating a riotous mob that killed five Sikhs in Delhi's cantonment area.
