CBN seizes 500 grams of heroin valued at Rs 1 crore

The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has seized 500 grams of heroin, which was hidden in the sole of sandals worn by a man, who was arrested here.

The cost of the seized contraband is worth around Rs 1 crore in the international market.

"On a tip off, CBN arrested a person from the main gate of Government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital yesterday and seized 500 grams of heroin. The estimated cost of the seized contraband is worth Rs one crore in the international market," CBN's Superintendent Deepak Dubey told PTI.

He said that the accused identified as Anna Akhtar (38), is a resident of Ratlam.
 

When intercepted, Akhtar claimed that he had purchased new sandals. On being checked, the weight of the sandal was found to be unusually heavy, said the official.

Later, 250 grams of heroin was found inside the sole of each piece of the sandal's pair.

"We have arrested the person and investigating further to know about the people involved in trafficking of the heroin. A case under relevant sections of NDPS was also registered," he added.
