HRD Minister Smriti Irani today said the results of CBSE Board exams for class X and XII will be declared "on time" before the end of this month and, as per a decision taken earlier, state boards are also expected to declare their results by May 31.

In an interaction with students on social media website Facebook, Irani also said her ministry has readied a Cabinet note for upgrading Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad to an IIT.

When a student expressed apprehension that the CBSE results would be late, Irani asked her "not to worry" and assured that "results will be out on time".

In reply to another query, Irani said in October 2015, at a meeting headed by Secretary, School Education, HRD Ministry with all state boards, "a decision was taken that all results across the country will surely be declared by May 31".

She, however, added that since education is on the concurrent list "we at the Centre have to respect the right of state government to engage with students through their board at their administrative convenience".

During the hour-long interaction, Irani was asked over 2000 questions, including several related to NEET exam, to which she replied that the matter fell within the domain of the Health Ministry and it would be unfair for her to comment on the sensitive issue.

Irani also said the draft of the new education policy will be submitted by the TSR Subramaniam Committee soon.

Replying to a question on the review and updating of the National Curriculum Framework, Irani said, "It can only be revised once the new education policy comes forth".

Responding to a suggestion Irani said celebrations of Constitution Day in schools bore good results as students were really engaged and interested.

On a demand for opening varsities in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Irani said the state already has two central universities and her ministry is looking forward to opening a new IIT.
