The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the revised cost estimates for widening of NH-232 to two lane with paved shoulder from Tanda to Raebareli and from Raebareli to Banda in Uttar Pradesh.
According to an official statement, the project will be executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
"The total expenditure on widening of roads will be Rs 1,376.29 crore with a completion period of 30 months from the date of start of work," the statement said.
The project will be implemented in two separate packages that is Tanda to Raebareli (Package-1) and from Raebareli to Banda (Package-2). Package-1 will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 817.52 crore, having a length of 156 kms.
The second package will be implemented at an estimated cost of about Rs 558.77 crore having a length of 133 kms.
The statement said the project covers districts of Ambedkarnagar, Sultanpur, Raebareli, Fatehpur and Banda in Uttar Pradesh.
"With upgradation of this highway to two lane with paved shoulders by overall improvement of the highway, smooth and safe traffic flow will be ensured between Tanda and Banda. Substantial gain in terms of reduced Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) and reduced travel time would also be achieved," it added.
In addition, the project would result in development of basic infrastructure in the region which would ultimately lead to overall economic development, it said.
