In order to create more awareness about issues pertaining to competition, fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI) plans to empanel as many as 24 entities, including individuals and non-government organisations.

These 24 entities would be carrying out their activities as 'competition resource person'.

The move comes at a time when the CCI is stepping up efforts to boost fair trade practices across industries and prevent entities from indulging in anti-competitive ways.

CCI has sought applications to empanel 24 'competition resource persons' who would be responsible for delivering messages about competition law, culture, neutrality and compliance to a group of at least 50 stakeholders.

The plan is to have one such person for the state or group of states and union territories.

In a public notice, CCI has invited applications from from individuals and non-government organisations for empanelment as 'competition resource person'.

This is to "disseminate the message of Competition — Law, Policy, Culture, Compliance and Neutrality — to stakeholders," the notice said.

The stakeholders include producers, suppliers and consumers of goods and services, their associations, professionals such as company secretaries and advocates, and state agencies.

CCI has the mandate to prevent practices having adverse effect on competition, to protect the interests of consumers and to ensure freedom of trade carried on by other participants in markets in India.
