The Competition Commission of India is likely to hold a hearing on a complaint of alleged unfair trade practices by domestic tyre makers on February 18.

The complaint has been made by the All India Tyre Dealers Federation (AITDF).

The grouping has alleged that tyre makers have continued "to indiscriminately and arbitrarily" impose high tyre prices, it said in a statement.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has asked the federation to appear before it on February 18.

Following a representation made by the federation, the Corporate Affairs Ministry had asked CCI to look into the complaint against alleged cartelisation by tyre makers.

AITDF Convenor S P Singh said that government's non-intervention in asking the domestic tyre majors to roll back the tyre prices "is very saddening".

"The indiscriminate and unfair tyre prices are hitting the general class of tyre traders and small transport operators, which is also affecting the road transport cost and in turn creating inflationary pressure in the economy," Singh said in the statement.
