Against the backdrop of huge uproar over the killing of five soldiers on the LoC, the Cabinet Committee on Security is expected to discuss the issue tomorrow.

The meeting is expected to be briefed by Defence Minister A K Antony about yesterday's incident in Poonch and the prevailing situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said here.

Antony today told Parliament that he was awaiting an update on the situation from Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh, who travelled there and returned to Delhi this evening. He will brief the top leadership of the Government tomorrow.

The Army Chief was to go to Poonch sector but could not reach there because of bad weather.

He reviewed the security situation at Akhnoor-based 10 Division with commanders of the forward areas, Army officials said. The Army Chief will revisit the area soon.

In a provocative attack, a group of 20 heavily-armed men entered 450 metres into the Indian territory in Poonch sector yesterday and ambushed a patrol, killing five Indian soldiers.

The five jawans martyred were 35-year-old Naik Prem Nath of Chappra (Bihar), 29-year-old Lance Naik Shambhu Saran of Bhojpur (Bihar), 27-year-old Sepoy Vijay Kumar Rai of Patna (Bihar), 23-year-old Sepoy Ragunandan of Chhapra (Bihar) and 36-year-old Naik Pundalik Mane of Kolhapur (Maharashtra).

The bodies of the soldiers were brought here this evening en route to their respective native places. Wreaths were laid and floral tributes paid to them at a ceremony here as a mark of respect.
