Central Crime Station, a wing of Hyderabad City Police, today took into custody a Naik Subedar, who was arrested for allegedly sharing information about strategic locations of Army bases and deployment of units, through internet with a woman, suspected to be a Pakistani national.
CCS Police took custody of Patan Kumar Poddar, JCO from Artillery and posted at 151 MC/MF detachment in Secunderabad, from Chanchalguda jail here where he had been lodged under judicial custody after his arrest by City Police on August 6.
The CCS had earlier approached the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate seeking Poddar's 7-day police custody as part of further interrogation which the court had yesterday granted and accordingly he was today taken into custody, a senior police officer said.
"The court had yesterday permitted the CCS to take Poddar into 7-day police custody. He will be produced before the court on August 19 after completion of custody period," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes and SIT) Sandeep Shandilya told PTI.
According to the remand report and confessional statement of Poddar, he worked as spy and shared with the woman, Anushka Agarwal, official information regarding deployment of some defence units, location of Artillery Regiments, Commands, Corps, division headquarters and brigades with foreign nationals for monetary benefits which resulted in threat to security to the nation.
The woman had paid Poddar close to Rs 74,000 since July 2013 and also offered him a trip to London for sharing the military information and that he had installed an internet link sent by her (Trojan malware) in the official computer at Secunderabad railway station's special counter for the military following her instructions, according to the confessional statement of Poddar.
