The integration of the CCTNS with networks of prisons, courts, transport departments and others will help probe agencies reduce time taken in investigation as well as increase the rate of prosecution, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba said Tuesday.

The Crime Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) is a pan-India database of crime and criminals.

Addressing a conference on the best practices and success stories in the implementation of the CCTNS, the home secretary said once it is integrated with the database of prisons, courts, transport departments, there will be a big change in tackling crime and criminals.

"The CCTNS would be able to provide 360 degree profile of any person," he said.

Gauba appreciated the good practises adopted by states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana which have provided many more citizen services than originally envisaged.

He said other states and union territories would do well to emulate these for providing better services to the people.

While launching a mobile app on person and property search, the home secretary congratulated the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), saying the application would be very useful for all police personnel especially the investigating officers.

Gauba also complimented the NCRB for released mobile apps for lodging of complaints, locating police stations, iew FIR etc., which are useful for citizens.
