The Maharashtra government has initiated re-tendering process of CCTV cameras installed across several locations in Mumbai Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil told the Maharastra Legislative Assembly here today.

In a written reply to Sambhaji Pawar (BJP) and others, he said that the proposed CCTV cameras installed would be modern.

The Maharashtra government has also floated tenders to procure bulletproof jackets and an order to supply around 5,000 bulletproof jackets was placed with a Nagpur-based company during mid-November this year.

The bullet proof jackets would be supplied within 45 days of placing the order.

Responding to a query, he admitted that as many as 1700 cases of chain snatching were reported in Mumbai this year.

"We have identified some places where such incidents were repeated earlier and adequate police bandobast has been made in such areas," he said.

He also admitted that chain snatching incidents are on the rise in cities like Nagpur, Pune and Thane.
