A CCTV surveillance project was today launched here under which 64 cameras were installed at vital locations of the city.

An ultra modern control room has been set up at the SSP's office to monitor the feedback of these cameras and coordinate with police for prompt response in times of need, said IGP/Zone-2 Jalandhar, Arpit Shukla, who lauched the project, said.

IGP said soon the other districts of Jalandhar Zone-2 would follow this initiative.

SK Kalia, DIG/Range, Ludhiana said the control room will act as the nodal centre for all the information and helpline queries pouring in through digital/wireless route.

SSP Snehdeep Sharma said the number of cameras would be soon increased from 64 to 96, thereby bringing almost every nook and corner of city under e-surveillance.

Earlier, seven PCR motorcycles used to monitor the entire city round the clock and now five more bikes have been incorporated into the team, he said.

"On receipt of information from police control room, the personnel manning PCR vehicles will promptly provide assistance to the local police," Sharma said.

"With the installation of cameras, the city police have started getting the real time information of incidents which is helping them to better analyse the situation," the SSP said.
