CCTVs in trains and rly stations in Odisha for passenger

CCTVs will be installed in major trains and at all railway stations across Odisha to ensure passenger safety, Indian Railways Wednesday informed Odisha Police.

CCTV cameras will be installed in all bogies of major trains and all railway stations in the state. Baggage scanners will also be installed at all railways stations and those lying defunct will be repaired soon, said the Additional Director General of Railways, Pranabindu Acharya.

He said the meeting of the state-level Security Committee for Railways held during the day decided to take joint effort during bandhs by stake holders like GRP, RPF and Railways to defuse the situation well in advance.

 

"Orientation training will be given to both RPF and GRP personnel to deal with Left Wing Extremist activities. All the railway stations will be provided with sufficient CCTV/ baggage scanner by Railways within a short period," Acharya said.

The meeting also discussed safety and security of railway passengers and the properties, law and order situation, crime scenario, sabotage, disaster management, Left wing extremist activities and other issues related to Railways security, he said.

New railway lines, including Talcher-Sambalpur, Rayagada-Koraput and Khordha-Nayagarh will be brought under GRP jurisdiction and a proposal in this regard will be sent to the state government soon, he said.

Odisha Police at the meeting emphasised on deployment of train guards in crime-prone trains which ply in the night and supply of closed user group mobiles to train the guard personnel.

The Railway authorities said that baggage scanner will be installed at Rourkela railway station within seven days, Acharya said.

The meeting, which was also attended by Railways and RPF officials, decided to create a WhatsApp group to share intelligence relating to transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotic substance, unauthorised transportation of live stocks, human trafficking, transportation of valuable metals like gold and silver, besides crime and law and order situation, he added.
