Consumer electronics industry body CEAMA has formed a 'Mobiles and Communications council' that will present consensus views on the growth and development of Indian mobility industry to the government.
The council will provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas between the members of telecom equipment and mobile manufacturers, said a statement issued by Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA).
"The council in collaboration with other industry associations will present an industry consensus view to the government on crucial issues pertaining to the growth and development of the Indian mobility industry from its existing scenario," it said.

"CEAMA along with other industry players are working to ensure that majority of components be made domestically, which will need time and further encouragement by the government to make this happen," CEAMA President Manish Sharma said.
Sharma, who is also the Managing Director of Panasonic India & South Asia, said local component ecosystem is still not fully in place, resulting into dependency on international machineries and mechanisms and hence the industry should be given an opportunity and encouragement in this segment.
Till now, the lobby group has represented manufacturers of TV, entertainment electronic products and home appliances.
CEAMA believes that the manufacturers should prepare for the above change and be able to set up manufacturing facilities to manufacture mobile parts and accessories in order to support and promote Make in India initiative, it added.
