"I urge the Prime Minister to use his good offices and influence in ensuring that the state does not return to a similar situation. It is unfortunate that three persons had lost their life in perhaps the worst incident of ceasefire violation since 2003," Mehbooba said in a statement.

Lauding former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's efforts that led to a ceasefire between two countries, Mehbooba said the prevailing peace had a great impact on the lives of people living in border areas.

She said Singh himself has invested a lot in Indo-Pak relations with encouraging results, but a special care needs to be taken to uphold interests of the state.

"People of Jammu and Kashmir must get peace dividends first as it is they who have borne the brunt of wars and hostility between the two countries," she said.

Silencing of guns along the border had allowed other important activities like trade and travel across the Line of Control to flourish, she said, and warned that violation of ceasefire can damage the positive atmosphere which had developed as a result of prevailing peace in the areas.

Mehbooba also underlined the need for an upgraded logistic support for hassle-free trading activities along the LoC.
