Celebrations in Sainik School as Raha to be next IAF chief

Celebrations broke out at the Purulia Sainik School here today after the government today announced that Air Marshal Arup Raha will be next Air Force chief as he was its student.

Principal of Purulia Sainik School Col B S Ghorpare said the entire Sainik School is very happy and is celebrating the news that Raha would be next chief of the Air Force succeeding incumbent Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne who is retiring on December 31.

This is for the first time that a former student of the Purulia Sainik School would be become a chief of the Air Force, Ghorpare said.
 

Raha passed out from the Purulia Sainik School in the year 1970.

Raha was a very good and bright student during his school days, the Sainik School principal said.

Born on December 26, 1954, 59 year-old Raha is expected to have a tenure of three years as the Chief of Air Staff.
