Police are probing alleged celebratory firing during the marriage ceremony of a Bihar Congress legislator which was attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Visuals showing alleged firing at the marriage ceremony of the MLA Tauseef Alam yesterday by TV news channels are being perused after which an FIR could be registered, police said.

"Necessary lawful action will be taken if needed," Kisanganj Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar said.

The police, however, said Kumar had participated in the marriage function at the groom's house, while the shots were fired in the air at the bride's home.

Chief Minister had reached Kisanganj yesterday along with CLP leader Sadanand Singh to attend the marriage ceremony of the Bahadurganj Congress MLA.

Besides, Singh and Alam two other Congress MLAs were also present and they were with the CM for nearly half an hour at the venue.

Kumar was at the marriage venue for half an hour after which he left for Purnea.

When local reporters questioned Kumar if his presence had a political meaning, Kumar said "Alam had invited me for his marriage and I accepted it and came here. No political meaning should be attached to a social function."

The MLA's supporters claimed it was crackers which were burst at the marriage.
