Census of livestock in Haryana in 2017

Haryana government today said it will conduct census of livestock in 2017 to prepare an accurate data of cattle heads in the state.

This was stated by Principal Secretary, Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department, Abhilaksh Likhi at a review meeting with officers of the Ambala Division, in Ambala.

The government will launch special awareness campaigns for providing information about the schemes for milch animals, especially for Haryana's Sahiwal breed of cows, he said adding, arrangements will be made to meet the shortage of staff in the department.

Likhi said that the state government had introduced 'Pashudhan Bima Yojana' under which insurance was being provided to cows and buffaloes for a period of three years at a premium of Rs 100.
 

Besides, insurance is also being provided to sheep, goats and pigs at a premium of Rs 25.

He directed the officers to effectively implement vaccination of animals to protect them from various diseases.
