A census of wild life, mainly for grizzled squirrels and monkeys, began at the grizzled squirrel sanctuary in and around Watrap in the Western Ghats today.
Forest department officials said that 40 groups, comprising volunteers and their personnel, are involved in the census work with the latest equipment.
The census would be held in Chathuragiri and Pilavakal forest areas, a department release said.
