West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim today accused the Center of behaving in a step motherly attitude with the state and stopping funds for various developmental projects.

"It seems that the Central government is pursuing a step motherly attitude towards the West Bengal government. Funds for various developmental schemes have been either stopped or slashed significantly," he said in the state assembly.

Hakim said funds sent under the much hyped Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is nominal in terms of the cost of the project.

"Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan they (Center) sent Rs 4000 for making latrines. But the actual cost of making a latrine is nearly Rs 11000 and if you add other amenities to it the cost will go up to Rs 18000.

"Who will give this extra money? We are paying it from our state coffers," he added.
