Central Rly posts 2% growth in suburban passengers in H1 FY17

Central Railway (CR) today said it registered 2 per cent increase in suburban passengers on its routes in the first half of fiscal 2016-17, leading to a corresponding rise in income.

It carried 74.10 crore suburban passengers between April and September 2016 as against 72.66 crore during the same period last fiscal, the city-headquartered CR said in a statement here today.

In persuant to the growth in passengers, CR has also seen a rise in income.

"The earnings of Rs 414.17 crore achieved in 2015-16 (April-September) increased by 2.39 per cent to Rs 424.08 crore in the same period of 2016-17," said the statement.
 

In September 2016, suburban passenger growth was 1.85 per cent, from 12.46 crore in 2015-16 to 12.69 crore," it added.

Suburban services of the CR in Mumbai Division operate from CST to Karjat-Kasara and Khopoli on main line, from CST to Panvel, CST to Andheri and Borivali on Harbour line and Thane to Vashi and Panvel on Trans Harbour corridor.
