The team, headed by Joint Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Radhika L Lokesh, yesterday visited the site of the alignment of railway lines from Agartala to Akhaura in Bangladesh from Indian territory.

Later they held a discussion with the state officials here headed by Chief Secretary S K Panda.

The delegation also met the state PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury who requested the delegation to expedite the works for laying the 15 km railway tracks.

Of the 15 km stretch, five km belongs to the Indian side and the rest is in Bangladesh. The Indian government has agreed to bear the entire cost for laying the tracks.

The final survey and alignment were completed and the Indian railway ministry would now acquire land for laying tracks, official sources said.
