Central team to visit Punjab for assessing paddy crops

A high-level central delegation will visit Punjab in the next few days to assess the damage caused to the paddy crops due to high moisture content and will suggest various relief measures, former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said today.

Singh, the Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee, said that after visiting some mandis in Doabar area, he spoke to Union Minister of State for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs KV Thomas about the problem being faced by the farmers in Punjab.

Amarinder said that Thomas assured him that the central team will take a sympathetic view of the situation and ensure that the farmers do not have to suffer on account of high moisture content in the paddy.
