Central team visits Raj to asses drought

The team comprising officials of different departments had visited areas in Nagaur, Bikaner, Barmer and Jaisalmer districts where the rainfall was deficient and delayed sowing of crops.

Chief Secretary C K Mathew informed the team that the state government on its level is initiating the process of Girdawari to assess drought from September 15 after which the situation will be clearer, according to an official.

The central team observed that the rain was deficient at some places and caused loss to farmers, whereas locals at some places demanded to increase days of working under MGNREGA from 100 to 200, Utpal Singh, joint secretary, Union Agriculture Ministry said in the meeting.
