Central University of Kashmir postpones foundation ceremony

Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today postponed the foundation stone laying ceremony of its Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEBs) at Ganderbal by Union Minister Smriti Irani which was scheduled for tomorrow.

"The foundation stone laying ceremony of the Central University of Kashmir at its permanent campus at Ganderbal, which was scheduled to be held on Tuesday has been postponed," a CUK spokesperson said without citing any reason.

All the functions related to the ceremony stand cancelled, he said, adding, "A fresh date for the ceremony shall be notified separately."

Yesterday Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who is also the Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), ordered postponement of the first Convocation of the University in view of the tragic death of truck conductor, Zahid.
 

Irani was scheduled to hand out degrees to pass-outs of IUST at a function at the university campus at Awantipora of Pulwama district today.

The death of Zahid, who was injured a petrol bomb attack at Udhampur on October 9, has led to protests and shutdown in the Valley.
