The Home Ministry has asked the state government to convey to it under what circumstances Assistant Sub-Inspector Kruparam Majhi was kidnapped by the Naxals and the possible reasons behind his killing, official sources said.

The police officer was kidnapped by Maoists and shot dead today in a forest area in Nuapada district of Odisha bordering Chhattisgarh.

The incident took place weeks after the abduction and unharmed release of two Italians and a BJD MLA in the state.

The Home Ministry is worried over repeated Naxal violence in Odisha and has been sensitising the state government for proper utilisation of central paramiliatry forces deployed in the state to check the Maoist menace, sources said.
