The CPI(M) today accused the central government of failing in its responsibility to take action in the Saradha scam and Narada sting operation and instead passing the buck entirely to the West Bengal government.
"The Prime Minister or the Centre cannot shirk responsibility in the matters. Both the state government and the Centre are equally responsible," CPI(M) state secretary and Politburo member Surjya Kanta Mishra told a press conference.
"What steps the PM has taken on the twin issues of Saradha and Narada," Mishra asked.
Mishra said that despite having an array of agencies to check financial irregularities in the country like SEBI, ED, CBI and SFIO, the Centre did not take any action in the Saradha scam.
Equally on the Narada issue in which a number of Trinamool Congress leaders were purportedly found taking money, the Centre was yet to play any effective role both in Parliament and outside, Mishra said.
"The matter has been sent to the Ethics Committee in the Lok Sabha where BJP has a majority. But it was not sent to the Ethics Committee of the Rajya Sabha as the Congress and the Left are in majority there," Mishra said.
Hinting at a Modi-Mamata secret understanding on these issues, Mishra said, "People in Bengal ultimately are the worst sufferers.
