Union Environment Ministry has constituted a State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) for giving environment clearances to various industrial projects in the newly-created state of Telangana.
It has also set up a State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC), which will recommend the SEIAA on category 'B' projects related to industry, thermal power, infrastructure, river valley and mining in the state.
According to the latest notification, the three-member SEIAA will base its decision on the recommedations of the 15-members SEAC. The term of Chairman and members of SEIAA and SEAC would be for three years.

"The SEAC for Telangana shall function on the principle of collective responsibility and the Chairman shall endeavor to reach a consensus in each case, and if consensus cannot be reached, the view of the majority shall prevail," the notification said.
The Telangana government would provide all financial and logistic support to both the bodies, it added.
The term of SEIAA and SEAC of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh had expired on October 25, 2013. In the absence of these two bodies, the centre was clearing state-level green projects.
The developmental projects have been categorised as A and B depending on their threshold capacity and likely pollution potential.
