Mizoram health minister Lal Thanzara today said the Centre has approved Rs 45 crore for upgradation of Mizoram State Cancer Institute into a 100-bedded hospital equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
Addressing a function on the occasion of World Cancer Day in Aizawl, Lal Thanzara said concerted efforts have to be made to reduce cancer incidence in the state with the knowledge that 90 per cent of cancer cases could be cured if detected early.
The function was jointly organised by the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) and the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD).
