Centre has given Rs 6,000cr to AP for rural job plan: Minister

The Union Government has allotted Rs 6,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), said Excise and BC Welfare Minister Kollu Ravindra today.

To enhance livelihood security in rural areas the scheme envisages providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual wor.

The Centre has provided a sum of Rs 6,000 crore to the State to implement the scheme, Ravindra said.

The Minister later visited Chinnapuram village near here and inspected the ongoing works under the rural job programme.
 

Talking to reporters, he said the AP Government has allotted the highest amount, Rs 8 crore, to his Machilipatnam Assembly constituency under the scheme.

"Nearly Rs 3 crore worth of works were completed in our constituency under MGNREGS and other projects valued at Rs 5 crore have been taken up recently."

Later the Minister visited Kamavaricheruvu and other villages and inspected the ongoing development works.
