Centre has plan to clean all rivers in the country: Meghwal

The Centre has made an elaborate plan to clean all the rivers, including those in the north eastern region, in the country, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said today.

"Rivers in the north eastern region are included in the list," the Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation told reporters here at the sideline of a seminar here.

Stating that the NE is a focus area of the Centre, he said, "we are regularly reminding our ministers to come here and submit a report on what interventions are required for the development of the region."

Meghwal assured that all pending water resources projects in Meghalaya would be cleared soon.
 

The Meghalaya government had in the past submitted a detailed project report (DPR) of Rs 4645.817 lakh under the "flood control on flash flood for cleaning and preserving the Umshyrpi River and the Wahumkhrah River."

The project, according to state government officials, is still awaiting approval of the Water Resources Ministry.
