The Centre has established National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) and also halted work at Lohri Nagpal dam near Uttar Kashi as it is serious about cleaning the Ganga river, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said here.

"Several saints and seers are working to clean the Ganga river and the central government is also committed to it, which led to the establishment of NGRBA," the Union minister said.

The river Ganga is witness to the journey of life, from birth to salvation, Shinde told reporters after attending a international yoga festival here.

Uttarakhand Chief Minster Harish Rawat was also present at the occasion. He said that to ensure clean Ganga he would embark on a foot march along the bank of the river from April 14.
