Centre lauds UP govt efforts in extending relief to Nepal

The Centre has lauded the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government in extending relief to the earthquake victims in Nepal, and said it has conveyed a very "positive image" of the country at the global level.

In a letter sent to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has thanked him for all possible help extended to the quake-hit people of Nepal and stressed that by doing so the state has portrayed a very positive image of the country at the international level, an official release issued here today said.

Citing the promptness in sending buses by the UP government to Nepal for bringing thousands of people to safer areas, Swaraj said, relief material made available to the victims promptly was of great help.
 

She also hailed the efforts of doctors and paramedical staff of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) in this humanitarian task.

Yadav said that the state would continue its help to the affected people as required, the release said.
