The Centre is likely to hand over to the NIA the probe into the recovery of explosives in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

The Home Ministry has received a report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the recovery of PETN at the assembly premises, a home ministry spokesperson said.

"The request for handing over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency is being examined. The probe may be given to the agency," he said.

About 150 grams of PETN (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate) explosive was found wrapped in a paper close to the seat of the Leader of the Opposition, Ram Govind Choudhary, in the assembly on July 12.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had described it as a "dangerous terror conspiracy" and he recommended a probe into the incident by the NIA.
