"SSC has undertaken revamp of the entire system by total computerisation, online application, use of tri-lingual (english, hindi and mother tongue) mode of examination and uploading results along with answer sheets at website.
"Candidates also have the facility to download admission certificates and call letters from its website," Union Minister of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, V Narayanasamy said here today.
He added that these facilities will benefit candidates of remote and far-flung areas, like the North Eastern region, and hoped that number of applications will reach the mark of five lakh soon.
Narayanasamy was speaking during inauguration of the new building of SSC, North East Region, here.
The minister said that despite lack of infrastructural facilities, North East is not behind when it comes to quality of education.
"But North East continues to remain a deficit zone because vacancies meant for North-Easterners are being filled up by candidates from outside the region. The main reason is the low number of applicants from the North East.
"With the opening of the new office, it will boost the employment sector in the region," he said.
He said that this year, with the joint effort of SSC, government agencies and mass media, the number of applicants has gone up to 3.83 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam PWD and Urban Development Minister Ajanta Neog asked the central government to consider opening of SSC centres at other North East states to increase representation of North East students in the all India level exams.
