The union government should recognise the armed conflict prevailing in Manipur as a political one, representatives of different ethnic communities today said.
In a public meeting, organised by Committee for Re-consolidation Campaign in the backdrop of current public agitation in Manipur, they further said a council or 'Upper House' consisting of different ethnic groups and tribes with equal representations should be instituted by the Manipur Assembly, or a ministry be set up by the government of India to ensure wider democratic political participation of the people.
The representatives felt some of the important agreements and related documents signed between the Centre and Manipur had been neglected, which could be an important reason of so many crisis that the state is facing today.
They advocated for the recognition of armed conflict as a political one.
Representatives of different ethnic communities, lawyers and scholars deliberated in the 8-hour long meeting which began from 10 am in the morning.
