Centre's nod for over Rs 61 cr port development works in Ker

The Centre has accorded administrative sanction for more than Rs 61 crore development works at various ports in the Malabar region in north Kerala, state Excise and Ports Minister K Babu said today.

The projects included dredging works at Beypore and Chombal Harbour at a cost of Rs Rs 8.2 crore and Rs 4.15 crore respectively, he told reporters here.

About 3.83 acres of land would be acquired for the development of Beypore Port, he said.

Besides, technical study by IIT-Madras for construction of a 200 metre-long wharf at the port was on, Babu said.

The construction work of Koilandy Harbour would be completed by next month, he said.
 

The Centre had also cleared Rs 48.80 crore for development work at Manjeswaram Fishing Harbour and the tender process would begin soon, he said.

He said the tender process for the development of Vellayil fishing harbour had been completed and the foundation will be laid on May 19.
