The Centre has given its approval for setting up of a new international airport at Rajkot in Gujarat, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

"Site clearance approval (was granted) to the government of Gujarat for setting up of Rajkot International Greenfield Airport at Hirasar, District Rajkot, Gujarat in May, 2017," Minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha said in a written reply.

The Ministry grants clearances in two stages, i.E. "site clearance" followed by an "in-principle approval", he said.

Last year, the government had given in-principle approval to Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL) for setting up a new greenfield airport near Navagam village in Ahmedabad.
