A 10-member central team today visited Faridkot for an on-the-spot study of the breach in Sirhind feeder canal.

A small breach occurred in the canal due to erosion of underground soil here on Saturday night, following which the team from water supply department, led by D S Jha was sent.

Tractors, trailers and JCB machines are plugging the breach to stop further erosion of the soil.

The underground soil of the bridge number 191 of the canal was caved in, which resulted in damage to the common service bank of both Rajasthan feeder canal and Sirhind feeder canal.

The team found weakening of the banks of canal at the time of breach, Jha said.

He said the water supply department is working on the new project of brick lining of the canals.

The water supply to these canals was from Hari Ke Bridge.
