The Union government has sanctioned a project, estimated to cost Rs 922 crore, for channelisation of Swan river and its tributaries in Himachal Pradesh's Una district.

Agricultural land measuring 3056 hectares is affected by floods during monsoon every year and channelisation of the river will benefit 2.33 lakh farmers, an Irrigation and Public Health department spokesman said here today.

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh will lay the foundation stone of the project, which is likely to be completed by the end of 2017, on October 23, he said.
