Centre sanctions Rs 1,135 cr for PMGSY to Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government today informed the state Assembly that after four years of "struggle" by it, the Centre has finally sanctioned Rs 1,135 crore this year for the rural road connectivity project 'Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana'.

"For four years, there was no funding from the Centre. Only this year, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 1,135 crore for the project in the state," Municipal Administration and Rural Development Minister K P Munusamy said.

He also said the state had clocked 40 crore mandays under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Scheme and the Centre has set a new target of 42.85 crore mandays for this year.
 

In view of better implementation from the state, the Centre has increased the funds alloted undder MGNREGA to it by 23 per cent.
